Milton 40 –
Supporting Personal Development at Milton
At Milton, we are committed to developing the whole child. Alongside strong academic outcomes, we place a high priority on personal development, character, and preparation for life in modern Britain. Milton 40 is a values-driven approach that ensures every child benefits from a broad, balanced, and ambitious range of experiences during their time at our school.
What is Milton 40?
Milton 40 is a structured set of 40 key experiences and achievements that all children are supported to complete during their time at Milton. These experiences are carefully planned to promote pupils’ personal development and to enhance the wider curriculum.
Milton 40 reflects our high expectations for all pupils and our commitment to ensuring equality of opportunity.
Why Milton 40 is Important
Milton 40 supports pupils to develop confidence, resilience, cultural understanding, creativity, and a strong sense of responsibility. It helps children to become respectful, motivated learners who are well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school.
The programme ensures that pupils gain valuable experiences that contribute to their cultural capital and supports our work in promoting pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
The Four Milton 40 Areas:
Confidence
Developing pupils’ self-belief, independence, resilience, and willingness to challenge themselves.
Culture
Extending pupils’ understanding of the world, including different cultures, traditions, heritage, and experiences.
Community
Encouraging pupils to contribute positively to the school and wider community, showing respect, kindness, and an understanding of their responsibilities.
Creative
Providing opportunities for pupils to express themselves, think imaginatively, solve problems, and develop creativity.
How Milton 40 is Delivered
Milton 40 is embedded within everyday school life and is closely linked to the curriculum, enrichment opportunities, assemblies, themed events, visitors, and wider school activities.
Staff plan and monitor opportunities carefully to ensure all pupils are supported to achieve all elements of Milton 40.
Recognition and Celebration
Pupils’ achievements within Milton 40 are recognised through badges or stickers linked to the four areas: Confidence, Culture, Community, and Creative.
Recognition focuses on celebrating personal achievement and effort, ensuring that all pupils experience success.
Our Commitment to Pupils
Milton 40 represents our commitment to providing a high-quality, inclusive education where every pupil is known, valued, and supported to succeed.
We believe Milton 40 plays a vital role in helping our pupils leave Milton as confident, capable, and well-rounded individuals.
